Tea farmers at Irondi village in Nyaribari Chache constituency of Kisii County have decried low pay and delayed bonus for their tea produce during the current global Covid 19 pandemic period.
The farmers who are affiliated to Mogeni Tea Factory said that they have been enduring late payments from the factory making it difficult to fend for their families.
They claimed that rates for tea payment have dropped from Sh21per kilogram to Sh17 over the last six months unlike other factories where payment has improved.
Lilian Gekobe accused their tea factory management of delaying the accrued tea bonus payments for two years.
The tea growers warned they will uproot the crop and substitute it with other crops if their demands will not be addressed.
Area Governor James Ongwae had earlier said a tribunal would be formed to resolve the issues bedeviling the tea sector in the county.
