Residents of Kivaa ward in Masinga sub county in Machakos are a happy lot owing to the near completion of the massive Miangeni dam. 

The 150-million-liter capacity dam which is being constructed through funding by the county government of Machakos will provide treated water to towns and households in the area.

Speaking during a COVID-19 sensitisation tour in Kivaa Ward, Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua said that water is a right and not a privilege and that his government will continue to work hard to provide the residents with clean water.

“This dam is one of over 490 dams and weirs that my administration has constructed. The dams are in addition to the 503 solar powered boreholes and over 410 kilometers of piped water to households,” said Dr.  Mutua.

The Governor who also visited Kithyoko town and distributed facemasks manufactured by the Machakos Vocational Training Institutes further urged wananchi to take the COVID-19 pandemic seriously.

 The county chief pledged to modernise the town’s roads and markets.

“We will also shortly construct the 2.5 kilometer stretch of road that leads to Matuu Level 4 hospital and Medical Training College,” pledged Dr  Mutua.

He was accompanied by the county Assembly Speaker Florence Mwangangi, his Deputy Eng. Francis Maliti, Members of the Machakos County Assembly among other senior county government officials.
